Plug loopholes: Sen. Win Gatchalian urges Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado to explore possible measures to plug loopholes that hinder the deportation of undesirable foreign nationals back to their country of origin. During a public hearing conducted by the Justice and Human Rights Subcommittee Tuesday, March 18, 2025, on a request to cancel the passport of former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, Gatchalian said he received reports that 21 individuals who were deported to China escaped when they reached Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia. “Once they reached KL, they will go to Cambodia and back to the obviously Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO)/scamming hubs. So, it goes to show that these people will not stop at their criminal activities,” Gatchalian said. One of the points of the hearing, the senator stressed, is to close the gaps in the system and ensure that the undesirable aliens are send back to their country of origin where they will be tried for their illegal activities. “It is embarrassing for us if we catch them, deport them then they will escape to other countries,” Gatchalian added.
