Monitoring measures for OFWs: Sen. Raffy Tulfo presides over the Committee on Migrant Workers to discuss stricter monitoring mechanisms that involve penal sanctions and preventive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). During Thursday’s hearing, March 6, 2025, Tulfo said he visited OFWs and personally monitor shelters and offices of the Department of Migrant Workers in the Middle East. Tulfo filed Senate Resolution No. 1086 to establish monitoring measures for OFWs. “OFWs are integral to Philippine economic stability, national social development and their contributions undeniably extend beyond their immediate families, impacting the nation as a whole and strengthening the country's global ties,” Tulfo said. Further, the senator said despite continuing government efforts to protect OFWs, the death reports of some OFWs showed lapses and gaps remained in the system, and failure of the government to extend the necessary protection and monitoring for Filipino migrant workers.
